MM romance might sound like a niche category but it is a very large subgenre of the romance book market. There is something for everyone be it mainstream, vanilla or exotic and spicy.
MM readers have a voracious appetite for new releases and successful authors often have to be prolific to stay in the loop. Add to that the ease of self-publishing which has attracted a mountain of new publishers… and the cadence of new releases is like a fountain with unlimited supply.
Some are better written than others, some have better stories, and many come as series. Reports state that romance is the largest genre of all, with many MM readers going through +100 books per year. Story and characters are often prioritized over narrative quality and plot. Plot-holes are common but forgiven if the story makes sense and engages. Heat levels range from clean and cool, to ultra explicit+5 inferno 🔥
